Types of Excavator Attachments
Excavator Bucket Types
Skid steer loaders aren’t just made for inventory and ag land management, nor are they only useful for construction and road crews. They’re also built to destroy.
Pairing raw power and versatility, skid steer loaders are exceptionally capable small machinery that can be used to tear down structures and clean up, and cart away debris.
With that in mind, here are some of the most usefulskid loader attachments for demolition.
Concrete Breakers
Hydraulic
concrete breakers are right at the top of the list. These unique skid loader attachments consist of a hydraulically driven piston with a tempered breaker head that can be used to concentrate force on a very specific area.
They are extremely useful for breaking up rocks, concrete slabs, and other structures. With training, they can even be used to break down walls.
One of their biggest advantages is their compact size. A skid steer equipped with a breaker can get into tight spaces with backhoes and bucket-equipped machines can’t get, and the force directed by the breaker is much more targeted and precise.
All in all, these are among the most practical, versatile, and overall useful skid loader attachments for demolition.
Concrete Claws/Slab Lifters
After concrete breakers,
concrete claws, also known as slab lifters or slab breakers, are highly useful.
These skid loader attachments are very simple, but they’re also highly effective. All the operator needs to do is slide the claw under a slab of concrete, lift it, and the slab will break under its own weight.
This creates clean breaks and large slabs that can be easily carted away. It also makes minimal debris that needs to be cleaned up and will not damage the substructure or base underneath the slab.
Skid Steer Buckets
Skid steer buckets, the generalized king of all skid loader attachments, are also useful in demolition work.
Skid steer buckets may not be as specialized as the other attachments mentioned here, but they can still be used to knock over and tear down small structures, as well as to cart away large volumes of debris in one go.
Grapple Buckets
Grapple buckets, which have manipulable, articulated hydraulic tines, are more specialized than regular all-purpose skid steer buckets.
These can be used to drag, lift, load, and cart away large pieces of demolition and construction debris, like concrete slabs, pipes, beams, and other waste materials.
Also, slotted grapple buckets allow water and particulate matter to sift through the bottom, making them ideal for disaster cleanup, especially in flooded areas.
Rock Buckets
Rock buckets are another class of specialized skid loader attachments that are highly useful for removing large slabs of concrete, steel beams, and other such heavy, cumbersome debris.
Like grapple buckets, they are also often made from welded tines that allow small debris to filter through, which can facilitate debris removal.
Angle Brooms
After demolition work is complete, the crew is often tasked with cleaning up the site. Once you’ve carted away the large debris with a grapple bucket or a rock bucket, what’s left is small particulate matter, gravel, rubble, and dust.
That’s what
angle brooms are designed to clean up. Made with durable poly and wire bristles, they are made for clearing up dust, gravel, and the sundry odds and ends of a teardown.
Backhoe Attachments
Backhoe attachments are also extremely useful skid loader attachments for demolition crews, and can be used to tear, push, or pull down small structures, like sheds and houses.
Because a skid steer loader equipped with a backhoe attachment is smaller, lighter, and more maneuverable than a dedicated excavator, they can go where full-size machines can’t.
Also, we here at Spartan Equipment sell both swing arm and stiff arm configurations for skid steer and compact track loaders that are highly useful for demolition crews.
Dozer Blades
They’re not as well adapted for demolition and cleanup as bucket attachments are, but
dozer blade attachments offers some of the utility of other attachments mentioned here.
Namely, dozer blades can be used to consolidate debris piles, from which the debris can be loaded or carted away by machines with other attachments, or loaded onto the waiting bed of a truck or train car for removal.
Pallet Forks
Heavy duty
pallet forks wouldn’t be your first choice in a skid steer loader attachment for demolition, but they’re better than nothing.
They can be used to lift, load, and remove beams, pipes, slabs of concrete and other cumbersome debris, easily and efficiently, and our high-quality pallet fork attachments exhibit top tier materials and workmanship.
