Earth Auger Teeth and Wear Parts

09/02/2015

It’s hard to believe that we’re now into early fall and have all endured
the hectic pace of spring and summer. For
those of us that live and work in the north it won’t be long before frost and
frozen ground become an issue. Regardless of where you live and work now is the
perfect time to take a look at your post hole digger’s teeth and fishtail
point. All too often, we see earth augers come in to our plant from local
dealers and rental yards that the teeth are either worn out or completely missing
which leads to costly repairs. Keep in mind that not only are the repairs
costly but the down time and losses of productivity are probably more costly. You
would be surprised at how quickly you can ruin a perfectly good auger bit by
continuing to dig with worn out teeth or no teeth. It’s important to keep a close
eye on the outer most teeth on any style of earth auger bit. These auger teeth
take the majority of the abuse and will wear out faster than the inside teeth. Standard
post hole digger teeth and fishtail points are very affordable so we encourage everyone
to keep a few on hand at all times. Also, keep in mind that Premier offers
their dealers earth auger teeth and fishtail point upgrades. If your ground conditions
are wearing down teeth quickly you may want to think about using a hard-faced
tooth or even a carbide tooth. These options can add a tremendous amount of
life to auger teeth and fishtail points.
